The baby's head emerged, but his abdomen became stuck in his mother's birth canal. The delivering doctor was able to get one of the baby's arm and shoulder out, and -- according to the lawsuit -- then applied so much force to pulling the boy out by his armpit and head that the baby's head detached from the spine.

The suit claims Ammonette was only feet away and watched the horrifying and bloody moment that the doctor decapitated his son.

The doctor pushed the boy's head and body back into Betts and ordered an emergency C-section. The court filing also claims that he began slicing Betts's stomach open before she was sedated.

"During the course of the cesarean section, defendant ... surgically and completely removed decedent Kaden Travis Ammonette's head from his neck and torso," the suit claims.

The suit names the attending doctor, Gilbert Webb, the couple's usual doctor Susan Moore, and Midwest Maternal. The filing accuses them of inflicting severe emotional pain on the couple and causing the wrongful death of the baby.

"Decedent suffered an agonizing and untimely death," the lawsuit says.

Midwest Maternal is not commenting on the pending litigation. Lawyers for the couple did not return a message, and Betts did not respond to an email message.
